“Partnering For The Future” Capital Campaign

Mountrail County Health Foundation embarked on a capital campaign in October of 2013 to raise money to fund the construction of three important phases for Mountrail County Health Center (MCHC). MCHC, which as a facility includes the hospital, clinic and nursing home, endeavors to maintain quality health care for individuals and their families in Stanley and surrounding communities. To continue to respond to today’s health care needs and ensure the provision of up-to-date procedures, it is necessary for MCHC to continually upgrade its facilities, equipment and services.

In response to the recently completed Community Health Needs Assessment by the North Dakota Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility (Flex) Program, Mountrail County Medical Center (MCMC – the hospital and clinic part of the facility) has conducted several strategic planning sessions to determine how the hospital and clinic can best continue to meet the needs of the communities it serves. Extensive information was gathered concerning how the facility matches up with the current programs and the inevitable programmatic changes the hospital will be making in the future to accommodate changing health care needs and how to identify renovation projects that will best position Mountrail County Health Center to meet the health care needs of the community, now and in the future. The most pressing needs of the hospital, clinic and nursing home over the next five years are:

  • CT Scan Room, Emergency Room Addition, and Enclosure of Ambulance Bay Area
  • Clinic Remodel, Expansion and Parking Lot
  • Expansion of Dietary, Activities, Chapel in the Bethel Nursing Home

The results of the assessment demonstrated the immediate need to add a CT scanner, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week instead of just once a week. The CT Suite was added on in 2014.  The CT scanner allows patients to have immediate care locally instead of having to make the hour drive as is currently necessary. In addition, it gives the medical team enhanced data to make quicker and more accurate diagnoses and decreases patients’ procedure time. This immediate care could be the difference between life and death.

The assessment also showed the community wanted greater access to specialists in Stanley rather than making the long drive to Minot for health care service. The clinic expansion built an additional 9 exam rooms to be used by these specialists, while still maintaining enough clinic rooms for the current staff of MCMC to provide their quality services.  This additional clinic space translates to more clinic patients seen by MCMC per day, which leads to a better bottom line for MCMC. The additional clinic space will also be a beneficial tool for recruiting additional doctors to our facility.

The goal of the Foundation was to raise $6.25 million dollars. Funds for the current construction projects at MCHC and those to occur in the future are being solicited from:

  • American Bank Center for construction loans
  • Bank of North Dakota for final mortgage/loan
  • Individuals
  • Private, Corporate and Foundation Sectors
  • T.H. Reiarson Trust

To date, the Foundation has raised $6,028,585.00 for the Partnering for the Future Capital Campaign. The impact of these new services on reducing suffering, increasing quality of life and having a positive change on the bottom-line will be dramatic.
